Do not do superficial things to help startups: AppWorks’ Jamie Lin

e27.coIn Taiwan, when it comes to having an ear to the startup ground, it doesn’t get much better than AppWorks’ Founding Partner Jamie Lin.

The startup accelerator is on its eleventh (and onboarding the twelfth) batch of companies for its bi-annual six-month programme.

The best thing? It is entirely free — no rent and no equity-in-lieu. Lin says the business model is to develop close relationships with the founders and hopefully become an early investor.

According to Lin, EZTABLE was the company under this business model that really took off. Afterwards, in 2012, AppWorks worked out a US$11 million fund. After deploying the investment for two years, the company raised a second round of US$50 million late last year.
